UK Youth Parliament (UKYP)

UKYP
Elections
This year young people from Lancashire voted to elect a young person who would be their district Member of Youth Parliament and who would represent them at a regional and national level.
This years election process took a different structure than of previous years, this year young people in schools and youth provisions voted for two people who would represent them on the district youth council and the MYP was elected from the district youth council following the official election process and election day.
This year over 28,000 young people voted in the election, doubling the figures from the previous election.

In all districts The Young People's Service undertook Young People's Elections from Dec 2009 – Feb 2010, electing representatives from local schools, youth clubs, voluntary groups and existing youth councils to become elected members of each District Youth Council

On Feb 17th 2010 each District held an Election event where each District Youth Council then elected from within their group who would be the MYP for the next 2 year term.
Thousands of young people from across Lancashire took part, the largest turnout ever!
Each district now has a Member of Youth Parliament, they are:

- Burnley -
- Chorley – Katie Byrne

The first Regional MYP meeting was Sunday 21st March in Warrington and 7 of the 12 MYPs were in attendance. The Young People met with lots of other MYPs from around the North West as well as Young Ministers of Health and Young Librarians.

The main purpose of the day was to discuss Regional Campaign topics and Transport, Citizenship Education and a campaign around Opportunities, Media and Police were proposed as the Regional Campaigns for the year.
MYPs from Lancashire also worked as Young Ministers of Health to plan a conference on young people’s health issues.
